As a reminder, our parade and fair are happening tomorrow! The parade will leave Pearl Ridge Elementary at 9am, will travel along Moanalua Road, up Kaamilo Street, take a right turn at Aiea High School (Ulune Street), and finish at the old ‘Aiea Sugar Mill.
Moanalua Road will remain open during the parade, though there will be lane closures. If you are driving along Kaamilo St. or Aiea Heights Dr. between about 9:30 and 10:15am, please be prepared for road closures due to the parade. All roads should be reopened by about 10:15am. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause!
The Christmas fun fair will take place at the Aiea Sugar Mill site after the parade, from roughly 10am to 2pm. The fair will feature entertainment, a couple of food trucks, games, and family-friendly booths. If you are planning on attending the fair at the Aiea Sugar Mill site, please park either on the street or at the ‘Aiea Korean Methodist Church. Unlike in years past, the City is not allowing us to park on the sugar mill field. Thank you for your understanding!
Hurricane Harvey the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States since 2005, devastated much of Texas and Louisiana as well as parts of Mexico and the Caribbean. The storm has resulted in at least 71 confirmed deaths and over $70 billion in damage. As we know from Kauai’s experience with Hurricane Iniki, the recovery process will take a long time.
One way to help out is by eating at CPK anytime on Tuesday, September 12th (today!). Twenty percent of food and beverage sales made throughout the day at nationwide CPK locations will be donated to Feeding Texas, which is helping with the relief efforts.
(In case you’re wondering, ‘Aiea Hongwanji’s preschool was going to hold its fundraiser today at CPK Pearlridge. However, in solidarity with the victims of Harvey, the preschool has decided to donate whatever funds it makes from its fundraiser toward CPK’s Harvey relief efforts. Thank you, ‘Aiea Hongwanji preschool, for your generosity!)
Hakubundo celebrated the grand opening of its new location at Pearlridge Center Uptown! This amazing store is popular for its high-quality Japanese stationary, gift items, books, magazines, and adorable stuffed animals and other toys.
To celebrate its grand opening, Hakubundo is graciously supporting the ‘Aiea Community Association. From now until the end of September, when you shop at Hakubundo, the store will donate a portion of the proceeds to the ‘Aiea Community Association. These proceeds will help the ACA in its mission to better the ‘Aiea community, and will help us to continue sponsoring events like our annual Christmas parade (purchasing insurance and renting equipment and bounce houses for the family fair is expensive!).
So, be sure to stop by Hakubundo sometime this month to do some early Christmas shopping!
MAHALO NUI LOA to Hakubundo for their generosity! Thank you for supporting our community!
